Chinese Learning Pen User Guide

Getting started

  • Make sure your Chinese Learning Pen is charged and turned on

  • Touch the front cover of your Chinese Reading and Writing book to activate the audio output for that book

Use your Chinese Learning Pen with Chinese Reading and Writing 1

The use of the Chinese Learning Pen is connected to the format of the Chinese Reading and Writing series.

Chinese Reading and Writing 1 contains one Preparation Chapter, five Lessons, and one Review Chapter. The Preparation Chapter introduces strokes, stroke orders, fifteen Chinese characters, and their combinations. Each Lesson includes two or more of the following sections, Awareness which presents single Chinese characters, Expansion which teaches words and expressions, and Practice which allows students to work through sentences and conversations. The Review Chapter includes all the Chinese characters taught in the book and additional integrated exercises. 

Preparation Chapter

  • Touch “a stroke” to hear the name of that stroke

  • Touch “a Chinese character” to hear that character, or the word/expression it belongs to

Awareness and Expansion sections

  • Touch “a Chinese character” to hear that character, or the word/expression it belongs to

Practice section

  • Touch “an index number” in an Exercise to hear all the sentence(s) for that number

  • Touch “Conversation” to hear that conversation in full

  • In a Conversation, touch “a person’s name” to hear all the line(s) spoken by this person, including this person’s name

  • Touch “。 !  ?” at the end of a sentence to hear that sentence in full

Review Chapter

  • Touch “a Chinese character” to hear that character

  • Touch “an index number” in Exercise 1 to hear all the sentences for that number

  • Touch “Exercise 2” to hear the paragraph in full

  • Touch “。 !  ?” at the end of a sentence to hear that sentence in full

Throughout the book

  • Touch this icon to listen to the supporting teacher’s note

After using the Pen

  • Long press the power button. Release the button when you hear the turning-off music. The power light then goes off.

  • When the Pen is left untouched for ten minutes, it will turn off automatically.

Caution

  • Treat your Chinese Learning Pen with care

  • Keep it dry, dust-free, away from water, magnets, and high temperature

Power

  • Chinese Learning Pen has a rechargeable lithium battery. To charge your Pen, connect it to a computer using the USB cable provided.

  • The power light will be on while charging, and will go off when the battery is fully charged.
