The first step for non-Chinese speakers to learn how to read and write Chinese is made easier with Chinese Reading and Writing 1, the Enhanced Edition (2020). Structure of the book
This book includes:
The preparation chapter introduces the basic elements of Chinese characters, 15 most frequently used Chinese characters, and 32 words and expressions to demonstrate that characters can be combined to make new words.
How characters can be combined is further emphasised and taught in the subsequent five lessons. Each lesson teaches a small number of Chinese characters and gives plenty of illustrations to demonstrate how to use these characters in Chinese texts.
The review section of the book gives opportunities for students to consolidate the usages of all 70 characters.
A stroke order chart is attached at the end of the book for quick references.
