When accelerated  learning is a must

Private Chinese lessons offer students flexible schedule and the teacher's undivided attention. With the right support, students can accelerate their learning at a stunning pace.

All courses are taught by teacher April, who is the author of Mandarin Express series and Chinese Reading and Writing series. Students who take private lessons will be provided with all necessary course materials, including textbooks, audio and video lessons, Chinese Learning Pen, and additional worksheets. 

A one-hour trial lesson for HK$100 is available for first time students.

From Zero to Fluency

Suggested study sequence based on desired learning outcomes


Become fluent Mandarin speakers on a wide range of topics without learning characters

Students can reach a good level of fluency and enjoy nice conversations with Chinese people on a wide range of topics of daily life and work without the need of learning any Chinese characters. Students will be able to discuss day to day issues, order food in Chinese restaurants, request and present factual informations, and more.

The teaching and learning medium is pinyin. Sufficient listening and speaking exercises are built in.

    There is a review chapter for every five chapters. This is where learnings are consolidated and assessed. How well students complete the exercises in these review chapters demonstrate their progress.

  • Time to completion

    120 - 130 class hours. 

    In addition to these class hours, students are recommended to work on Chinese at home, including doing exercises in Work Books, listening to audio lessons, and preparing for the next class.

    The fastest record of completion of all four courses is 90 class hours, held by students who can do nearly full-time study. For students who are busy with work, they can expect to complete these four courses in about 150 class hours.

  • Recommended schedule

    Two lesson per week, at 90 minutes per lesson.

    For students who can do more intensive study, they can opt for three to four lessons per week, 90 minutes per lesson.

    For students who have less time, they can take one lesson per week, either 90 minutes or 2 hours per lesson.

  • Expected limitations

    Students will have a limited understanding of broadcasted news, TV dramas or Chinese movies. Students can not engage in in-depth discussions in a more professional settings.

Be able to read and write interesting and meaningful Chinese texts

After having learned pinyin and developed good listening and speaking skills, students are recommended to learn how to read and write Chinese, build solid Chinese reading and writing skills quickly and efficiently, and start to read and write interesting and meaningful Chinese texts, such as very short stories and poems.

Starting from the first lesson, students will be gradually immersed in a carefully constructed world of Chinese characters.

  • Time to completion

    125 - 165 class hours

    In addition to these class hours, students are recommended to work on Chinese at home, including copying characters, words, and sentences, writing original stories, watching video lessons, and preparing for the next class.

    The fastest record of completion of all six courses is 76 class hours, held by students who can do nearly full-time study. For students who are busy with work, they can expect to complete these six courses in about 180 - 240 class hours.

    Students will have a limited understanding of online media, newspapers, fiction or non-fiction books. 

Achieve Chinese fluency and proficiency, and be able to think in Chinese

After gaining fundamental knowledge of the Chinese writing system and having developed sound Chinese skills, the next target is to become really fluent in Chinese in all aspects, such as articulating opinions, doing presentations, writing in-depth analysis, and reading timely social and political informations. 

Chinese is the main teaching and learning medium. Abundant opportunities are provided for self-expression and original research.

    Presentations in Chinese on various topics are served as the main assessment. Students are expected to present on every chapter.

  • Time to completion

    400 - 530 class hours

    In addition to these class hours, students are recommended to work on Chinese at home, including copying, writing, doing exercises in Work Books, and preparing for the next class. 

    This is a long term study. There have been students who completed all four courses in about three to four years with regular weekly lessons. 

  • Recommended schedule

    Two lesson per week, at 90 minutes per lesson.

    For students who can do more intensive study, they can opt for three to four lessons per week, 90 minutes per lesson.

    For students who have less time, they can take one lesson per week, either 90 minutes or 2 hours per lesson.

  • Expected limitations and further study recommendations

    Students will reach about 85-95% of total understanding of Chinese media and prints. 

    To close the gap and to achieve the full understanding, students can continue with other more specific Chinese courses, such asWeChat Social Media Chinese Course or Finance Chinese Course. Alternatively, students can do self-study, working on areas they are mostly interested in and making Chinese part of their daily routine.


Terms & Conditions

  1. Students can start at any time of the year.
  2. Students are required to register and make the full payment a week before the designated starting date. Payment is not transferable or refundable unless the course is cancelled by MSL Master.
  3. In case of cancellation or rescheduling, students are required to notify MSL Master at least 24 hours in advance to avoid the cancellation/rescheduling charge. Otherwise, the full amount of the session is charged.
  4. Students are required to finish all hours within the time limit. For 18 hours package, all hours must be finished within 5 months; for 30 hours package, within 6 months. Unfinished hours can not be used and the remaining balance is not refundable.
