“I like purchasing famous brands.”
Welcome to the first audio lesson of Mandarin Express Basic Level A.
In this lesson, April introduces how to say different shopping places in Chinese, such as “night market” and “chain store”.
The discussions are around famous brands and the fake ones.
“I want to change a job.”
Unhappy about your job? You’re not alone.
In this lesson, the topic is job related issues, such as benefits, insurance, annual leaves, and why people change jobs or quit working.
“I have a headache.”
This is the theme of this lesson, learning how to say some illness in Chinese, such as “headache”, “fever”, and “insomnia”.
Correspondingly, you’ll also practice giving suggestions to people who are sick.
“My uncle is coming to see me.”
What is it like when you have a house guest? This is the topic of this lesson.
You’ll practice describing the changes a house guest brings and also practical taxi Language in Chinese.
“When I’m happy...”
Happy and sad, thirsty and hungry, these emotions and feelings are the topic of this lesson. You’ll learn how to express these emotions and feelings in Chinese, and to describe what associates with them.
Shopping, changing jobs, illness, house guest and emotions, Lesson 11 - 15 have covered so much ground. It’s time to pause a little and do a thorough review.
“The air con is not working.”
Troubles, problems and complains, these are the topics of this lesson. You’ll practice describing the issues you are facing, and also talking about your options.
“Museum opens at ten.”
In this lesson, you’ll practice describing places, such as “museum” and “police station” in Chinese, and also practice describing towns and cities in Chinese.
“Elderly like to practice taiji.”
This is the theme of this lesson, age groups and sports. You’ll practice describing fitness and health related habits.
“Sichuan food is spicy.”
This lesson is about food. You’ll learn how to say tastes, flavours and ingredients in Chinese. This lesson also introduces a bit of regional differences within Chinese cuisines.
“China is beautiful.”
This lesson’s topic is about China, its geographic terrains, and its famous places to visit.
You’ll learn how to say “forrest”, “volcano”, “river” and etc in Chinese. There are two words for “river” in Chinese, one is 河, the other 江. April presents some explanations for why it is this way.
With these newly learned words, you can practice describing beautiful places in your own country.
You’ve learned a lot during the previous five lessons, articulating problems, describing places, talking about fitness, learning food ingredients, and practicing geography.
It’s time for a thorough review, and make the end of this Basic Level B a fresh beginning of your next stage of Chinese study.
