NCACLS (National Council of Associations of Chinese Language Schools ) annual conference is a great place for ideas. I was in one a few years ago and I still remember that a teacher shared how she used kites to inspire her students and to build connections between learning Chinese language and doing scientific experiments.

A few days ago, I returned to this marvellous event, the eighth annual conference this time, sharing my idea to a roomful of (or rather, a screenful of) Chinese teachers from the other side of the world. 

Attending a big event, such as NCLC, was always something worth talking about. It was especially cool to be a speaker, even a small one as I was among all the big shots. It was a good opportunity to learn and to share some of my experience.

After attending international book fairs for a few years, this is the first time for me to participate in a major one online. Comparing to my previous Frankfurt Book Fair experience, things are quite different this time.

Things changed quickly. The growing concerns about the travel and the recommended social distancing amid the novel coronavirus crisis prompted the College Board and Asia Society, the organisers of the National Chinese Language Conference, to cancel the coming NCLC 2020, scheduled in May in Orlando, Florida.

Great music, wonderful food, and a fabulous opportunity to reveal the latest Chinese learning materials at ALA annual conference, those are the things we are excited about.

The ALA Annual conference serves as the top resource for public, private, and school libraries in the United States, providing a great platform for education solution companies to showcase their services and products. And this year, New Orleans is the host city of this conference. This is the right place to be for MSL Master. Apart from our textbooks and teacher’s manuals, we have got something new to show to the world.

Teaching and learning Mandarin Chinese are going to stay around for a while. We want it to be enjoyable and effective, and to create great experiences for both teachers and students. And we want more people to know about it. So, next stop is Frankfurt Book Fair! Situated in the heart of Europe, Frankfurt is the place to meet, to discuss and to forge long term relationships. It is all about books, or about people who make books matter.

A call for all Chinese teachers and Chinese educators: an exciting event is just around the corner now! Organized by Asia Society and College Board, the tenth annual National Chinese Language Conference (NCLC) will be held in Houston, April 6 – 8, 2017. Representing Mandarin as a Second Language Master (MSL Master), Ms April Zhang is scheduled to present to the conference on April 8, at 9:45am-10:45am. The topic is Class Activities that Benefit both Students and Teachers.

I did not expect that giving a lecture can also earn me another certificate. A certificate I earned indeed at this trip to Florence Italy, for the International Conference ICT for Language Learning, November 2015.
