Decoding change: Is Bitcoin a digital sanctuary or a mirage?
Written by April Zhang on Saturday, 15 November 2025. Posted in Front Page

On November 15th, Bitcoin traded at USD97,800, down 21% from its October zenith. We heard the same screams that Bitcoin is only a mirage. But at the same time, Bitcoin believers continue to hold onto their safe haven to hedge against future uncertainty.
Let’s turn to I Ching (the Book of Changes), using its ancient wisdom to facilitate our understanding of Bitcoin and its place in our society. Welcome to Decoding Change, a live discussion series designed to explore contemporary questions through timeless frameworks provided by I Ching.
Bitcoin has really changed our perception of what money is.
We are so used to fiat systems that are regulated and protected by governments. Sometimes we’re not happy that the purchasing power of our money is dwindling. But we have to get over it.
Then came Bitcoin, with a promise of decentralisation and a fixed supply of 21 million coins—no central banks ever issuing more to devalue what we hold.
Today, Bitcoin has made a huge pivot: from a currency to buy groceries (a role now largely taken by stablecoins) to a safe-haven asset on par with gold. Some companies, like MicroStrategy, do little else but hoard it.
Critics have been calling collapse for years, blaming it for aiding criminals. Believers see every dip as a buying opportunity, never wavering from Bitcoin’s core: 21 million coins, verifiable by anyone, anywhere.
It will be fascinating to use I Ching as a lens to see where Bitcoin stands—and where it might go.
I Ching does not predict whether Bitcoin will hit USD200,000 or crash to USD5,000. It reveals a process, a framework to comprehend the balance of energies.
We will introduce the core concepts of I Ching—yin and yang, the 64 hexagrams, and the philosophy of continuous change—and apply them directly to the Bitcoin landscape. No prior knowledge required; we’ll make everything accessible and engaging.
Each of the 64 hexagrams represents a unique state of balance or transition. During our session, we will cast one at random and use it to illuminate the dualities in Bitcoin’s rise: innovation versus risk, unbounded progress versus necessary caution, extraordinary opportunity versus profound uncertainty. This “cast” hexagram becomes our shared lens to explore how these competing energies shape Bitcoin’s path.
Participants will dive into a hands-on interpretive exercise, dissecting the chosen hexagram to spark nuanced debate. Is the tech sector’s dominant yang energy—bold, expansive, disruptive—being balanced by yin’s qualities of caution, integration, and reflection?
This session is not fortune-telling. It is about equipping you with a unique tool to think more critically and creatively about rapid, complex change. Whether you’re a Bitcoin enthusiast, a cautious skeptic, or simply curious, you’ll leave with a deeper grasp of the forces at play—and a fresh appreciation for viewing modern dilemmas through a timeless lens.
Join us. Decode the change.
