Once it’s available, I believe it’ll offer tremendous help for beginner students to learn how to read and write Chinese, to build solid Chinese reading and writing skills, and the most importantly, to enjoy the delight of reading and writing Chinese. The essentials included in the Complete Course Kit are: the entire Chinese Reading and Writing series, 112 animated video lessons, and the full recordings done by native Chinese speakers. All effort is concentrated on building reading and writing skills. Anything that does not contribute directly to the development of Chinese reading and writing skills is avoided. Three major aspects that are favoured in a conventional approach are therefore not covered on purpose, including: 1) the connections between pictures and characters, 2) Chinese character radicals and components, 3) a second line of pinyin next to the characters.

By the way, for students who are interested in learning about pictures or radicals, there are many resources available. I’ve published quite a few articles here. 

The methodology used in the Course Kit is to allocate the majority of the lesson time and nearly all of the book pages to expand words and combinations, to comprehend sentences and narratives, and to understand words or characters within a given context. These are the crucial activities that beginner students genuinely need in order to develop their Chinese reading and writing skills. It is definitely not a conventional approach. And that’s why it’s going to work beautifully, just like the outstanding results that my students have achieved, who have worked through the entire series with me.

As for now, the engineers are taking over. They are going to produce a few prototypes, and then test them vigorously. Once everything is done and all the tests are passed, pre-order starts.
